Chuck Russell Soars With “Northern Lights” For Electric/Skydance

Chuck Russell has been attached to write an original screenplay and direct the feature project NORTHERN LIGHTS, a non-stop action film set in the most dangerous sport in the world - aerobatics. Electric Entertainment principal Dean Devlin is producing with Skydance Productions’ David Ellison. Electric’s Kearie Peak and Marc Roskin are executive producing and the company’s Rachel Olschan will co-produce.

Based on a first draft from Ellison and Duane Adler, the project is set in the high-adrenaline world of extreme flying. NORTHERN LIGHTS follows the adventure of three young pilots’ passion to be the world’s best. A story of teamwork, sacrifice, sudden loss, and victory, these young aviators push themselves to the limit in the world of high performance, 10 Gs, 300 miles per hour upside down, a mere ten feet off the ground!

Principal photography is set to commence August in Shreveport, LA.

“Northern Lights is the story of a new breed of young pilots who compete in the visually spectacular world of extreme flying,” said Russell. “We'll be incorporating real time, world class aerobatic performances with new visual effects technologies that will put the audience right in the pilot's seat.”

Devlin and Ellison commented, “Chuck has an exciting vision for this film and is the ideal partner for us on this project. He has a complete grasp on how to bring the tremendous aerial action sequences to life which complements the rich story that will thrill audiences.”

Russell’s directing credits include the global box-office hits THE SCORPION KING, THE MASK, and ERASER. He most recently executive produced COLLATERAL.

Electric is currently in production on TNT’s third installment of its “Librarian” franchise, “Curse of the Judas Chalice” which is shooting in New Orleans. TNT recently ordered 13 episodes of Electric’s thrilling, action-packed drama series “Leverage,” starring Oscar® winner Timothy Hutton. Devlin and John Rogers (Cosby) are executive-producing the series, which is shooting in Los Angeles and will premiere on the network later this year. Devlin made his directorial debut on the pilot.
