Dexter: Resurrection Dexter: Resurrection

Sharpen the knives. Dexter Morgan is back.

Dexter®: Resurrection returns for its second season Friday, October 30, exclusively on Paramount+ with the Paramount+ Premium plan. Michael C. Hall once again steps into the role of television’s most notorious blood-spatter-expert-turned-serial-killer, continuing a story that first introduced audiences to Dexter Morgan two decades ago.

This time around, Dexter isn’t the only killer making waves in New York. Brian Cox joins the series as The New York Ripper, an infamous serial killer who has remained beyond the reach of the law, while Dan Stevens plays The Five Borough Killer, a dangerous newcomer determined to make a name for himself.

Uma Thurman also returns as Charley after making her Dexter universe debut in Season 1, while Jack Alcott reprises his role as Dexter’s son, Harrison.

And the new season had Thurman hooked from the start. Speaking at New York Comic Con, she shared her reaction to receiving the scripts: “I couldn’t put it down. I burned through the whole season.”

If Thurman’s reaction is any indication, audiences should have plenty to sink their teeth into when Season 2 arrives.

A Killer Midlife Crisis

Of course, murder may not even be Dexter’s biggest problem this season.

The trailer finds him confronting something even he can’t take care of in the kill room: getting older. Between worsening eyesight and questions about his future, Dexter is forced to reevaluate his life in ways even he wasn’t prepared for.

His late father, Harry Morgan, puts it bluntly in the trailer: Dexter is having a midlife crisis.

“I’m not ready for that,” Dexter responds.

Getting older, it seems, may be the one problem he can’t stab his way out of.

Not everything in Dexter’s life is headed in the wrong direction. When asked at New York Comic Con about Dexter and Harrison’s evolving relationship this season, Jack Alcott offered a cautiously optimistic update: “It’s better. It’s trending upward.”

For a father-son relationship that has never exactly been simple, that may qualify as progress.

Fresh Blood in New York

Cox’s New York Ripper is a killer from another generation, someone who escaped justice and seems more than happy to revisit his gruesome glory days. Stevens’ Five Borough Killer, meanwhile, represents a dangerous new threat, taunting police and leaving victims across the city as he attempts to build a reputation of his own.

And the deadly lineup doesn’t stop there. Gabriel Luna joins Season 2 in a guest role as serial killer Ray Ballard, while Krysten Ritter and Eric Stonestreet return as Mia/Lady Vengeance and Al Walker/Rapunzel following their appearances in Season 1.

With two very different killers posing new threats, familiar faces resurfacing and Dexter navigating his own increasingly complicated personal life, Season 2 has no shortage of problems waiting for him. And for a man accustomed to being the most dangerous person in the room, that could make things particularly interesting.

Twenty Years of Dexter Morgan

Season 2 arrives as the Dexter® universe continues to grow 20 years after audiences first met Dexter Morgan.

The original Dexter debuted in 2006 and ran for eight seasons, introducing audiences to the mild-mannered blood-spatter expert with a deadly double life. Dexter®: New Blood picked up the story nearly a decade later, while prequel series Dexter®: Original Sin turned back the clock to explore a younger Dexter and the beginnings of his bloodlust.

Then came Dexter: Resurrection, which brought Hall back to the center of the franchise and opened a new chapter for Dexter, particularly in his complicated relationship with Harrison.

For showrunner Clyde Phillips, the challenge was finding new ways to surprise audiences who have followed Dexter for nearly two decades. As he explained at New York Comic Con, the new season needed to feel “surprising yet inevitable.”

Now, with new adversaries, old scores, family complications and the small matter of a killer midlife crisis, Dexter Morgan is heading into Season 2 with plenty on his plate.
